The Palm Desert Tennis Club has a rich tennis tradition.
It was developed in 1973 by Beverly and John Fleitz. Bev was a Wimbledon finalist in 1955 and was ranked as the number one female tennis player in the United States in 1959. Tennis immortals Rod Laver and Jack Kramer were original condominium owners.
Most of the original members were from Southern California. But through the years Club ownership has changed; many units are still owned by Southern Californians; many members come from their permanent homes in Oregon and Washington for several months each year; others come from Canada and other parts of the United States. About a dozen call the Club their full-time year-round home.
The complex includes 100 three bedroom condominiums, eight lighted championship tennis courts and a complete pro shop. There are six swimming pools, five spas, and a fitness/exercise center. The Club House includes a comfortable lounge area, billiard room, free lending library and a well equipped kitchen. Breakfast and lunch are offered on weekends during the season.
